Preventive Care (Dental Cleanings)
Though your mouth may feel healthy and you may not have any symptoms, periodontal disease can progress without a patient knowing. If left untreated, periodontal disease can destroy the supporting bones in your mouth. This is why early treatment and prevention is so important! Your dentist will make sure you are receiving the highest quality of care that will assist in preventing periodontal disease from developing.
Dental x-rays are a great preventive, diagnostic tool that provides important information not visible during a routine dental exam. Our dental team will utilize this important information to safely and accurately detect any dental abnormalities and then create an accurate treatment plan.
Dental x-rays help to reveal:
- Bone loss
- Decay between teeth
- Poor tooth & root positions
- Problems happening inside a tooth-colored
- Issues below the gum line
- Developing cancerous & non-cancerous tumors
- & more
Periodically we will suggest a fluoride treatment for your teeth. It’s a simple and quick process and can be done during your routine exam. No extra appointment is necessary. Fluoride is a mineral that helps prevent tooth decay and is applied to your teeth. This strengthens the enamel so your smile will be as strong as ever.
Sealants are a very efficient and successful method for preventing decay on the biting surfaces of teeth. They are primarily placed on the permanent molars as they erupt in a child’s mouth. The sealants are maintained throughout childhood and can last well into adulthood. Sealants are made of a flowable resin that is applied to the deep pits and fissures of teeth protecting them from harmful acids and plaque build up commonly found in the mouth. The application of sealants is a simple procedure requiring a short appointment and are proven to be effective in preventing decay in children.
When a tooth is affected by decay, fractures, or cracks, a dental filling is needed to restore the tooth. In a single dental appointment, the decayed or injured tooth will be removed, cleaned, and filled. Composite fillings can be matched to the color of your existing tooth. Since the color is the same as your original tooth, the filling will look aesthetically pleasing and restore your teeth to a healthy, beautiful smile.
When permanent teeth are significantly damaged, extracting the compromised teeth can, in some cases, help you return to optimal oral health. After discussing your various treatment options with you and deciding on extraction, your dentist will either perform or refer you to an Oral Surgeon for the treatment.Following the extraction, it is important to replace the tooth to prevent problems with the surrounding teeth. You can discuss your tooth replacement options with your dentist during your initial consultation.
Crowns and Bridges
Crowns are necessary when a tooth is severely damaged or has suffered from advanced decay and cannot be fixed with bonded filling material. Crowns cover the remaining tooth and restore its function, strength, and esthetics. Several crown material options are available including non-metal crowns. Your dentist will discuss these on an individual basis depending on the area of the mouth that needs to be restored.
Bridges can be utilized when tooth loss occurs due to gum disease, decay, or injury. The loss of the tooth can create greater problems for your dental health if it is not corrected. The teeth next to the missing tooth (or teeth) can begin to move and result in pain, discomfort, and can look unsightly. With bridges, your dentist will close any gaps in your mouth. The bridge looks and acts just like natural teeth, is permanently cemented, and helps to maintain the position of the rest of your teeth.
Veneers & LUMINEERS®
Porcelain veneers are thin, tooth-colored shells that your dentist uses to improve the appearance of your smile. Your dentist will bond the veneers to the surface of your teeth to correct certain dental flaws. Your porcelain veneers are customized for a perfect fit and natural appearance. When in place, porcelain veneers can:
- Close spaces between the teeth
- Lighten and brighten the teeth
- Improve the beauty of your smile
- Repair chips, wear, or cracks in teeth
- Correct teeth that are misshapen, crooked, or uneven
The procedure usually requires two visits to our office to complete. When your veneers are in place, you can enjoy a radiant new smile.
Dentures & Partial Dentures
A denture is a removable dental appliance replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissue. They are made to closely resemble your natural teeth and may even enhance your smile.
There are two types of dentures – complete and partial dentures. Complete dentures are used when all of the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain. A partial denture not only fills in the spaces created by missing teeth, it prevents other teeth from shifting.
A complete denture may be either “conventional” or “immediate.” A conventional type is made after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has healed, usually taking 4 to 6 weeks. During this time the patient will go without teeth. Immediate dentures are made in advance and immediately placed after the teeth are removed, thus preventing the patient from having to be without teeth during the healing process. Once the tissues shrink and heal, adjustments will have to be made.
Dentures are very durable appliances and will last many years, but may have to be remade, repaired, or readjusted due to normal wear.
BOTOX (XEOMIN) is used to help smooth out fine lines and wrinkles that have begun to form on a person's face, giving them a more youthful and radiant look. What most people don't know is that BOTOX (XEOMIN) is also useful for helping treat cases of TMJ, bruxism, and migraines. Since BOTOX (XEOMIN) is a muscular relaxant it will help decrease the muscle contractions occurring in the face that cause TMJ and other facial pains. Many patients have experienced the amazing relief that BOTOX brings to these painful conditions.
